Who are we?
There are many options for veterinary care in the Central Virginia area. Many of these are large, multi-doctor practices with specialists and lots of high-tech diagnostic equipment. So why look at a small, solo-practice? Because Glamorgan Veterinary Services can offer you the consistent, one-on-one service that is commonly missing in today’s larger practices. Our mission is to provide you:
exceptional patient care and exceptional client service
We will accomplish this by:
- keeping quality, computerized records in the vehicle so all information is available at the time of an appointment,
- offering a wide variety of Wellness programs to meet the continuing preventative care needs of all of our patients,
- offering frequent opportunities for client education either through day seminars or downloadable files from this website,
- being on time for our appointments, and
- following up with our clients in a timely manner to make sure there are no unanswered questions or surprise outcomes.
Please browse the information available to you on this site. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call or email us. If you are interested in becoming a client, please feel free to use our NEW CLIENT - PATIENT HISTORY RECORD located at the top of the Client Information page.
Mike’s Biography:
Unlike many people in the horse industry, I was never a horse brat. Truthfully, I didn’t even start to ride until my junior year in high school. One of my best friends at the time taught riding lessons, and she convinced me that riding was a good idea. She must have been right as college found me at Virginia Intermont College studying horses and photography. After graduation I managed a hunter- jumper stable in Mechanicsville, VA. While there, I had the good fortune to meet Lea Ann Hansen. We were married in 1992. After leaving the barn manager position, I spent several years working at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals as a pharmacy technician and attended Virginia Commonwealth University. Although I had learned a tremendous amount about horses in college, I had almost none of the prerequisites to start vet school. I graduated from the Virginia- Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998.
Having lived in Virginia since 1986 and wanting to stay in the area, I started working with Woodside Equine Clinic soon after graduation. I had spent quite a lot of time with the vets at Woodside before and while I was in school. As one of the largest private equine ambulatory practices in the state, Woodside provided me with a diverse view of the equine industry. I was able to develop my skills in many areas of practice, including lameness evaluation, internal medicine, and surgery; however, dentistry, preventative health care, and, especially, reproduction (Theriogenology) have been my passions.
Since leaving Woodside at the end of 2004, I have spent nearly all of my time working on our farm, setting up the framework for Glamorgan Veterinary, and studying for my specialty boards in Theriogenology.
In my moments of free time, I try to expend some of my creative energy with photography. I have to admit I’m a bit of a photo throwback as I rarely use a digital camera, preferring film whenever possible. My favorite camera is a Sinar Alpina, an old-style, large format camera complete with the cloth over my head and the large bellows. A couple of my favorite pictures are below. The image on the left is the Highline Trail in Glacier National Park. The waterfall on the right is part of Big Tumbling Creek in southwest VA.
